A Light After Nine is a BIPOC-led nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families navigating infertility, pregnancy loss, and maternal trauma. Founded by Rachell Dumas, a registered nurse and maternal health advocate, after her personal journey through nine pregnancy losses, the organization provides compassionate resources and advocacy for equitable maternal care. Our mission is to illuminate the path to hope and healing for families facing the emotional and physical challenges of reproductive health. We focus on addressing systemic inequities in maternal healthcare, particularly for communities of color, by providing trauma-informed care, educational support, and direct assistance, such as care baskets for high-risk patients. As an official Perinatal Safe Spot under the National Perinatal Task Force, A Light After Nine is a trusted, inclusive space where families can feel supported, heard, and cared for during their maternal health journeys. Our designation as a Perinatal Safe Space highlights our commitment to: -Culturally Competent and Trauma-Informed Care: We recognize the unique challenges faced by diverse families, offering services and resources that honor their lived experiences. -Advocacy and Empowerment: We actively work to address disparities in maternal healthcare, using our platform to advocate for systemic reform and equitable access to quality care. -Community Support and Healing: Through initiatives like our care baskets for high-risk inpatients, virtual support groups, and storytelling events, we foster a sense of belonging and resilience among families. -Safe, Nonjudgmental Space: We provide an environment where families can share their experiences, access resources, and receive emotional and practical support without fear of stigma or judgment. At A Light After Nine, we’re more than a nonprofit; we’re a lifeline for families navigating the complexities of maternal health. Our work aims to shine a light on systemic gaps while empowering families to find strength, healing, and hope. Together, we can build a future where no family has to walk this journey alone.
