BirthRoot Community Doula provides culturally responsive, community-rooted care that prioritizes Black and vulnerable birthing families in Erie, PA. Rooted in reproductive justice and health equity, BirthRoot addresses persistent disparities in maternal and infant outcomes by offering compassionate, personalized support before, during, and after birth. Core Services of the BirthRoot Care Plan: •Birth Doula Support: Continuous emotional, physical, and informational assistance through pregnancy, labor, and delivery—empowering families to advocate for choices and preferences. •Postpartum Care: Trained Doulas and Perinatal Community Health Workers (PCHWs) provide in-person support during the early weeks after birth, including breastfeeding guidance, infant care, mental well-being check-ins, and practical household assistance. •Bereavement Support: Compassion and companionship for families navigating miscarriage, stillbirth, or other losses. •Lactation Counseling & Infant Nutrition: Certified lactation support and peer groups designed to boost confidence and success with breastfeeding and infant nourishment. •Community Resource Navigation: Helps families identify and access essential local services. BirthRoot Community partners with community organizations to streamline referrals for areas such as housing, healthcare, nutrition, and financial support, ensuring that families have a well-rounded support network. •Incentivized Educational Events: Hosting engaging and interactive workshops on perinatal health, nutrition, and parenting. Participants can engage to earn meaningful incentives like car seats, diapers, and other important baby essentials to reduce access barriers to family wellness and promote participation.
