This month, the National Perinatal Task Force (NPTF) would like to highlight NPTF Perinatal Safe Spot Community Birth Companion. Based in Opelousas, Louisiana, “CBC’s mission is to decrease infant and maternal mortality rates among low income mothers through childbirth education, breastfeeding promotion, and community doulas.”

Seeing the need in her community, Executive Director Devin Bailey-Nicholas founded CBC to impact maternal and infant health disparities in Landry Parish. Their website lists free pregnancy tests, breastfeeding supports groups, pregnancy nutrition, and labor and postpartum doula support as their primary services. CBC hosts a number of community events. Most recently, CBC co-hosted a Prenatal Health Fair (Project CRADLE Care) with the local chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. There, Louisiana Healthy Blue presented the organization with a $10,000 donation, the largest donation Community Birth Companion has received to-date. Congratulations to CBC!! We look forward to hearing more and supporting this pivotal work!!
