Detailed Information

Our mission is to provide education and awareness through best practices in peer support services to those seeking assistance with maternal health decisions. Those most impacted by environmental and social determinants of health is our focus.

Umoja Nia Doula Collective Vision Statement

Our vision is to create, engage and promote a collective of professionally and diversely trained doulas that identify in part or in whole as descending from the African diaspora.

Umoja Nia works collectively to promote and activate community-level maternal care to birthing families. We center members of our community that are most impacted by poor maternal outcomes including but not limited to, vulnerable populations, teen mothers, low resourced and low income families.

Reproductive justice is a cornerstone of our framework to dismantle negative determinants of health, biases and racism that continually manifest themselves in poor birth outcomes and mental health issues.

Umoja Nia provides safe and ethical referrals for:

  • Culturally relevant and sensitive mental health therapists

  • Culturally competent life skill trainings

  • Best practices in maternal health education and rights

  • Empowerment and support within medical systems and institutions that are repressive to our population

  • Provision of resource connections such as pregnancy and infant loss support, insurance navigation, contraceptive education, and herbal nutrition

Umoja Nia Collective is a RI based Perinatal Doula collective of unique, diverse Community Based Full Spectrum Doulas who provide a range of perinatal service to families in the State.

Each doula business is independently owned and operated, while providing resources and support to each other for complementary services. If interested in any of the services, please reach out to each individual organization for more information.
